The ninth generation of consoles has arrived; Countless superior systems are used by young and old and it is impossible to imagine an average interior without them. But the real enthusiast reverts to the past. The 90’s kid From the fourth generation of consoles (start 1987) Nintendo was one of the market leaders. If you are reading this blog, you are most likely the proud owner of a Nintendo Game Boy and want to relive the games you remember as a piece of childhood memory through an EZ flash. However, the popular consoles, from the first Game Boy (1989) to the Game Boy Advance (2001), do not have the specs as we know them today. You probably remember those nights under your comforter with that crazy lamp, in order to see something and get that last badge of Pokémon Yellow. But that’s history: Today’s market offers a wide range of available upgrades for the Game Boy. Too many? No, never too many. But now, to give a better idea of what is possible and what BOYSMODS can do, I’ll give some examples. To start with, I’ll start with the most popular upgrade: an IPS display. With an IPS display you get the best and sharpest display currently on the market. Not only do you make the image sharper, but you also lighten the image. Is it really an upgrade? Yes it is! The image is even sharper than the backlit screen of the AGS-101 (Game Boy Advance SP). Dimming is possible in all cases, while also giving the models that originally have no color (Original Game Boy and the Pocket) the option to choose from a wide range of colors and the “retro-pixel” effect. Game Boy Advance The 2001 Game Boy Advance was wildly popular at the time. Not only for its ‘form-factor’, but also for its games. You can play the old Game Boy and Game Boy color games as well as the new Advance games on this model. All of this ensures that it is still a very popular handheld today, but also because there are so many upgrades available for it. I don’t just provide the Advance with an IPS display. It is possible to fit an audio module, clicky-triggers (like you are used to from the GBA SP) or a battery module like the well-known CleanJuice. Besides ‘internal’ upgrades, BOYSMODS also offers visual upgrades. Think of (UV-printed) housings, buttons, rubbers and other accessories. Very popular is for example the matte black housing: this qualitative housing replaces the original (damaged) housing and provides a premium feel. BOYSMODS So who am I, really? That’s not so hard: a 90’s kid from the Netherlands with a hobby that has grown out of its roots. I’ve been active with Nintendo’s for years: fixing them, repairing them and buying/selling them. Because I see a lot of possibilities in this retro-console world, it was time to take this hobby to the next level. I want to realize good quality consoles together with the real enthusiast. Because we have one thing in common: a passion for retro consoles. And if possible, adding a bit of creativity, so challenge me 😉 Each Game Boy is fully checked, cleaned and built with care. In addition, you will have personal contact with me – the builder. With the aim of making your dream Game Boy a reality. Are you curious about the possibilities or do you already have ideas how your dream Game Boy should look like? Please send me a message.
